Who’s on Loan?

Here’s your exhaustive list of who is currently owned by AC Milan but on loan elsewhere, what they’re doing and if you’re lucky, a thought about them.

Starting at the back, here goes!

KEEPERS

GABRIEL went on loan to Cagliari in a swap deal that landed Storari here for his last days. He’s sat the the bench for most of his time there, before getting 3 starts, the last being a 5-1 loss to Inter. He’s been back on the bench since. He’ll probably have a Storari like career where he bounces around all over but probably never start at the San Siro for the home team. That magical season at Carpi feels like a hundred years ago now.

DIEGO LOPEZ went on loan to Espanyol last summer. He has 25 starts this year, conceding only 27 goals and has 9 clean sheets. Damn good numbers. I was never a fan of his, but it’s clear he can still play. Unless the keeper situation changes here greatly, he won’t be back. Most likely he remains on loan for another year or is sold this summer.

DEFENDERS

RODRIGO ELY went on loan to Deportivo Alaves this past winter. He in fact became the last player on their 25 man roster to make a start last week, only making that start due to a series of injuries. To be fair, he started at CB in a 1-0 win against 6th place Real Sociedad, so perhaps he just needed a chance? He’s still only 23, but the odds of him coming back here seem to fall in the Didac Vila department.

JHERSON VERGARA went on loan to Arsenal Tula in the Russian League last summer. most of us probably remember him as being completely overwhelmed in a few friendlies last summer, especially the one against Bayern Munich. In the first half of the Russian season, they take a long winter break, he started 11 games at CB. His team conceded 15 goals and only won once. The first game since the break he was started at LB and benched at the half. Interestingly he is the 3rd best player on the team according to Whoscored.

STEFAN SIMIC has been on loan at Mouscron in the Belgian League this year. He has made 26 starts and has 2 goals for the 2nd to last place team. Doesn’t sound all bad, right?

IVAN De SANTIS is on loan at Lega Pro side Paganese. He has taken over as a starting CB of late and the team has won 5 of his 8 starts. Still only 19 he’s a former Primavera player that the club has high hopes for.

AMETH LO is rated at a whopping 25K by transfer market and is a free agent this summer. Later.

GIAN FILIPPO FELICIOLI is a 19 year old wide player on loan at serie B side Ascoli. He’s started 18 of their last 20 games at both LB and LM. He’s very fast and puts in a nice cross. Hopefully a bright spot for the future.

MIDFIELDERS

JOSE MAURI is on loan at Empoli. He hasn’t played a full 90 minute game for a team struggling just above the relegation zone. I was hoping for a whole lot more.

His brother JUAN ALBERTO MAURI is on loan at Paganese. He’s 28 and playing sparingly at a Lega Pro side. Nuff said.

MATTEO PESSINA is at Lega Pro side Como. His 3rd different loan in the last 2 years. The 19 year old has 5 goals, mostly as a CM.

ANDREJ MODIC is currently on loan at Serie B side Brescia where he has played a whopping 24 minutes all year. Not much else to say.

GIOVANNI CROSCIATA is also on loan at Brescia. The 19 year old attacker has mostly been used as a sub or been pulled early in starts. Just 1 assist in 11 appearances for a team near the bottom of the table.

HACHIM MASTOUR is on loan at Dutch side Zwolle where he has mostly played for their U21 side. Hyped as the next big thing he is quickly becoming a lot less than that. Just 5 months younger than Locatelli and older than Donnarumma, you have to wonder where his future will take him.

FORWARDS

DAVIDE DI MOLFETTA is on loan at Lega Pro side Prato. A speedy winger who we’ve seen in some friendlies, he has a goal and 8 assists on the season. Might be a name to watch some day.

LUCA VIDO is on loan at Cittadella playing for their Primavera side, where he had 9 goals. The last 2 months he has been making regular appearances with the senior side as a substitute striker.

M’BAYE NIANG is at Premier League side Watford. He’s started 6 games there scoring 1 goal after being our starting LW most of the first half of the year. Still only 22 and on his 3rd loan in 4 years, you gotta start wondering when and if he’ll turn the corner.

GIANMARCO ZIGONI is on loan at Serie B leaders SPAL, where he has appeared in 27 games (12 starts and the rest as a late sub) and has 8 goals and 4 assists. A name we have heard for quite a while now, at 25, you have to wonder if this is his ceiling.

GIACOMO BERETTA is another name that we’ve heard for quite a few years. Also 25 now, he’s on loan at Serie B side Carpi where he is basically an attacker that comes on as a sub here and there.

Finally ANDREA BIANCHIMANO is on loan at Lega Pro side Reggina. Weren’t they in Serie A at one point? Anyways, the 6′5″ center forward has 2 goals on the year, again as mostly a late sub.

So that’s it folks. 20 players all together. Take that for what it’s worth. A couple possible bright spots for the future but you just never know.

Cheers

Lisi
